Coorg - The Scotland Of India.

Coorg or Kodagu is situated on Karnataka's Western Ghats. Madikeri, the district headquarters nestled like a bird's nest in the verdant hills, is spread along the ridge of a mountain, at 3,900 feet above sea level.

The best way to reach Coorg it turned out was by train from Bangalore to Mysore (three and half hours) and then a bus to Coorg, 120 kms from Mysore. Car travel, even a short journey on a smooth road, makes us go a funny shade of green.

How to get to Coorg?
- Catch Tirupati-Mysore passenger train at 7.40 am to mysore, have lunch and can catch bus 12:30PM.
- Regular buses and taxis are available from Bangalore (250 km), Mysore (120 km), Mangalore (135 km) and Hassan (146 km).

Surrounding places to visit

- Raja's Seat, a popular sunset viewpoint (Within Madikeri)
- Abbey Falls, about seven kilometres away (Within Madikeri)
- The Omakeshwara temple (Within Madikeri)
- Elephant camp at Dubare forest (45 km from Madikeri)
- Harangi dam (36 km from Madikeri)
- Kushalnagar, which houses a very famous Tibetan monastery
- Nisargadhama (30 kms from Madikeri)
- The Nagarhole Wildlife Sanctuary, little far about 110 kms.
